Kinesiology is one of the fastest growing disciplines in modern natural health care. It is a method of using muscle testing as a diagnostic tool and can be used to treat the whole person using a combination of techniques. The name kinesiology comes from the Greek kinesis which means 'motion'. In medical sciences it is the study of muscles and the movement of the body.

Within the body are a series of meridians. These are channels or pathways along which the 'energy', the life - force, the qi flows. Each meridian is linked energetically with an organ, gland or part of the body. So, for example, a problem in the stomach could cause an imbalance in the stomach meridian. If you think about the London Underground a blockage on the Circle line may cause a disruption in function of the Central line. In the same way an imbalance in energy in one meridian of the body may in fact be caused by a blockage in another. This interference of energy flow can show up as a symptom.

The response of a muscle to the gentle challenge gives an indication of energy disruption. This may be due to structural, nutritional, emotional and acupuncture meridian imbalances in the body. The therapist can then determine the most effective treatment for the client. This may be through energy balancing, massage, stimulation of acupuncture points without needles, dietary suggestions, vitamins or minerals, Flower Essences or others as indicated by the testing.

How often will I need to come?
This depends on the kind of problem you have and the length of time you have had it. If it is a structural problem such as back pain or a shoulder problem, treatment should be weekly to begin with until improvement is sustained. When nutritional supplements are being used the body is receiving treatment every time the daily dose is taken so visits can be spaced out at three to four weeks. As symptoms improve the gap between visits will increase but it is often good to consider a twice yearly MOT to keep on top of things.

Can I benefit from Kinesiology even though I feel well?
Yes. Remember that when you begin to experience symptoms of ill health you are already on the path to sickness. By attending regularly it is possible to nip things in the bud before they show as symptoms.

What should I wear?
Removal of any clothing is rarely necessary. However loose clothing will make it more comfortable for you to experience muscle testing effectively. Watches and other jewellery may have to be removed before treatment
